Xiangbo Feng received his PhD in Coastal, Harbour and Offshore Engineering from Hohai University in 2010. His thesis topic was typhoon wave nowcasting for East China Sea. In the research, a wave spectra data assimilation model had been developed to predict the typhoon waves in the mainland China coast, using the real-time observed 2-D spectra in Taiwan coast. A recent project funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China supports the topic doing further research and establishing the operational system.

He has been a member of the LRF funded Network, within the UK node, since October 2011. He has analyzed the decadal trends of extreme waves at the Polar front of North Atlantic from the SBWR data. Currently he is investigating the variability of extreme water level, combining storm surges and waves along the UK coast.
