Shiliang Shan is a PhD candidate at Dalhousie University. He has six years working experience in ocean circulation models including POM, CANDIE, NEMO/OPA and FVCOM. As part of his BSc thesis study, he developed a coastal circulation model for Jiaozhou Bay, China based on FVCOM with the highest horizontal resolution of 30 m over the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center. The model results were used to investigate the tides, tidal circulation and water exchange rate in the Bay. As part of his MSc thesis work, a multi-nested modelling system was used to study the hydrography and estuarine circulation in Halifax Harbour, Canada. Numerical passive tracer and particle tracking experiments were conducted to quantify the flushing time and dispersion in the Harbour. After his MSc program, he worked one year for the GOAPP project using a nested NEMO/OPA model for the Scotian Shelf and North Atlantic Ocean.
