Overview of the Institution and Key Personnel

United Kingdom Node:

The UK node is based at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton. The Centre is a collaboration of the Natural Environment Research Council and University of Southampton. It is the home of about 520 research scientists and support staff as well over 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The focus is on coastal flooding driven by sea level extremes and how flooding probabilities may change over coming decades as global sea level continues to increase and the intensity of storms may change.

Dr. Michael (Mikis) Tsimplis is the node leader for the UK node. He is Professor of Oceanography and Maritime Law at the University of Southampton and the National Oceanography Centre. His research in oceanography is focused on sea level change, marine extremes and oceanic circulation at regional scales. His research in law covers marine environmental law as well as commercial aspects of shipping law.
